Dear Church Family,
I have some wonderful and exciting news to share with you! We are going to hold a fundraiser for our beloved Parks Family. There have been some inquiries as to why we are doing a fundraiser. With Jean’s and Paul’s permission we are sharing the following information to answer those questions.
As you know, our pastor, Jean Parks has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is undergoing treatment weekly at the hospital and is also part of a clinical trial which requires her to take chemo daily in pill form. She recently had to start daily self-injections of blood thinners due to clots in her leg. As a result of her diagnosis she is on a great deal of medication. Jean is on a very strict, all-organic pancreatic cancer diet (organic food is costly) so that her body can process and digest what she eats. Additionally, Paul is also on a great deal of medication due to his health issues. He is currently recuperating from his recent and very serious heart attack and is not working. In addition to their many medical appointments and hospital visits they have numerous and varied co-payments at the pharmacy for their medications. Any family that has to deal with a catastrophic illness can have their savings wiped out and they in essence are dealing with two. Their out-of–pocket medical expenses for bills received as of today have exceeded $3000.00 (this does NOT include the co-pay for Paul’s 7 day stay in ICU). Many of the bills haven’t even come in yet (blood work, chemo treatments, Paul’s tests, etc.) and they are not going to stop arriving anytime soon.
A few of us met last week to see what we might do. We have decided on a walk-a-thon to be held on Saturday, June 25th in the morning. We will be holding it at the YMCA MacColl Field facility on Breakneck Hill Rd. in Lincoln.
It is a lot to do in a short amount of time but with everyone’s help it can be done!
We have some wonderful ideas for the walk-a-thon and we believe it could be a tremendous success! BUT….the few of us cannot do it alone. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We will need lots of volunteers in order to make this a reality. Whatever time you can give us will be appreciated. Many hands make light work! If you are unable to attend meetings, don’t worry, there will be lots to do in the coming weeks. Time is of the essence so we need to get going!

We have an amazing opportunity in front of us to be disciples of Jesus and live out our faith by coming together and serving not only our beloved pastor and her family but Jesus as well. For as Jesus said in Matthew 25:40:
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
